Hey there, lovers! If you are dreaming of saying your vows surrounded by the jaw-dropping, jagged peaks of the Tetons, but want to skip the stress of fighting for the park’s site-specific ceremony spots, you are in the right place. As a professional Grand Teton elopement photographer, I am thrilled to share a lesser-known game-changing secret with you: the Small Dispersed Ceremony Permit. All of the locations in this Grand Teton Secluded Ceremony Locations guide are only the beginning of the options!

While iconic landmarks like Schwabacher Landing and Mormon Row are breathtaking, they book out almost instantly when the application window opens in December. But if your guest count is 12 people or fewer (that includes you two, your officiant, and your photography), the entire park opens up to you year-round. With a dispersed permit, you apply using GPS coordinates or a specific location name, allowing us to find incredible, lesser-known gems that feel secluded and breathtaking with a hint of the wild!

Rules of the Small Dispersed Permit

All of the locations in this Grand Teton Secluded Ceremony Locations guide require a small dispersed permit that has to be applied for and is issued by the park. More information of that in this blog, here!

  • Guest Count: Maximum of 12 participants total
  • No Structures: No arches, chairs (unless for accessibility needs), rugs, or amplified sound
  • Off-Limit areas: Prohibited areas include Hidden Falls, Inspiration Point, the paved paths directly around Jenny Lake, String Lake’s developed picnic area, and the Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve.
  • Official Info & Application: You can check out all the up-to-date regulations, verify seasonal updates, and apply directly via the Grand Teton National Park Wedding & Ceremony page.

13 Grand Teton Secluded Ceremony Locations

1. Cascade Canyon Turnout

This turnout aligns perfectly with the massive gap in the mountains known as Cascade Canyon. Instead of looking at the peaks from a flat profile, you feel as though you are looking straight into the heart of the range.

  • Accessibility: Effortless. A paved vehicle pullout right off the inner park loop (Teton Park Road). Zero hiking required!
  • Seclusion Level: Moderate. It’s a roadside turnout, but it gets significantly less foot traffic than neighboring overlooks like Jenny Lake.
  • Best Time of Day: Sunrise. The way the first morning light strikes the deep canyon opening is pure magic.
  • Best Time of Year: Late May through October (when Teton Park Road is fully open to vehicles).

2. Cathedral Group Turnout

If you want a view that makes you feel tiny in the best way possible, this is it. The Cathedral Group Turnout places you directly underneath the three highest peaks in the entire range. The mountain faces look incredibly massive and close from this specific angle.

  • Accessibility: Super easy. A gravel roadside pullout located along the unpaved, scenic Jenny Lake One-Way Loop.
  • Seclusion Level: Moderate. It’s a quick-stop destination for drivers, but if we time it right in the morning, we can easily claim a quiet corner.
  • Best Time of Day: Sunrise or early morning. Watching the sun illuminate the massive faces of the Grand, Owen, and Teewinot peaks all at once is unforgettable.
  • Best Time of Year: June through October (Teton Road closes seasonally for winter).

3. Taggart Lake Alpine Trail

If you want an adventurous hiking elopement vibe without an all-day trek, Taggart Lake is an absolute gem. You can exchange vows right on the edge of a crystal-clear alpine lake with the Grand Teton towering right above you.

  • Accessibility: Moderate. Requires a 3.3-mile roundtrip hike with roughly 300 feet of gentle, rolling elevation gain.
  • Best Time of Day: Sunrise or Early Morning. You’ll beat the daytime hiker traffic and catch pristine, glass-like lake reflections.
  • Seclusion Level: High (especially at dawn). Moving slightly down the shoreline away from the main trail bridge provides wonderful privacy.
  • Best Time of Year: July through October. Fall here is spectacular with shimmering golden aspen groves along the trail.

4. Lupine Meadows Trailhead

This spot offers a gorgeous mix of deep, aromatic pine forests and wide-open meadow spaces right at the base of the mountains. It feels incredibly rustic, organic, and grounded.

  • Accessibility: Moderate. It’s an active trailhead, requiring a short 5 to 10-minute walk down the trail into the wilderness clearings to find a legal spot.
  • Seclusion Level: High (once you step away from the parking lot). While the trailhead parking lot is busy with major alpine climbers, very few people hang out in the quiet forested clearings nearby.
  • Best Time of Day: Late afternoon or golden hour. The light filters through the pine canopy beautifully.
  • Best Time of Year: July and August. The wildflowers in this specific meadow environment can be absolutely extraordinary during peak summer.

5. Moose Pond Trailhead

Nestled right below the jaw-dropping slopes of Teewinot Mountain, this area features quiet water ponds, lush willows, and heavy timber. It feels beautifully untamed and intimate.

  • Accessibility: Easy to moderate. Requires a short, relatively flat 0.5-mile walk along the dirt trail branching off towards the Moose Ponds loop.
  • Best Time of Day: Sunrise or early morning. The crisp morning air and calm waters make for stunning, atmospheric shots.
  • Seclusion Level: High. While tourists crowd the nearby Jenny Lake visitor areas, very few casual walkers make the early trek out toward the ponds.
  • Best Time of Year: June through October.

True to its name, this is prime wildlife territory! We have a fantastic chance of spotting a moose wading through the water.

6. Mount Moran Turnout

Most wedding photography highlights the Grand Teton itself, but Mount Moran is an absolute powerhouse of a mountain—massive, flat-topped, and beautifully dramatic. This location features expansive fields of wild sagebrush that perfectly frame the northern peaks.

  • Accessibility: Effortless. Drive-up pullout located on the northern section of Teton Park Road.
  • Seclusion Level: High. This turnout is often skipped by tourists rushing toward Oxbow Bend, making it a wonderful quiet haven.
  • Best Time of Day: Mid-to-late afternoon or golden hour. The light softens beautifully over the northern range.
  • Best Time of Year: June and July. This is when the surrounding sagebrush fields come alive with vibrant yellow balsamroot and purple lupines.

7. Mountain View Turnout

Rather than focusing on just one peak, Mountain View Turnout offers a sweeping, wide-angle panoramic view of the entire Teton Range. Because it contains a highly sensitive vegetation environment, we utilize the designated durable surfaces and paved pathways to keep your ceremony 100% eco-conscious while still getting those massive views.

  • Accessibility: Effortless. A level, paved drive-up turnout right off Teton Park Road with designated accessible parking.
  • Seclusion Level: Moderate. While it is a roadside pullout, it has excellent availability and is far less chaotic than the main Jenny Lake junctions.
  • Best Time of Day: Morning (when it is least busy) or late evening/sunset.
  • Best Time of Year: Mid-May through mid-October (the road is closed to vehicles during the winter).

8. Cottonwood Creek Overlook

Cottonwood Creek offers a beautiful combination of rushing water sounds, winding creek beds, and sweeping mountain backgrounds. It provides a softer, more intimate landscape look compared to some of the massive, stark cliff overlooks.

  • Accessibility: Easy. A short, level walk from a quiet roadside pullout off standard park roads.
  • Seclusion Level: Very high. This is one of the most underrated, overlooked turnouts on the park map, making it a dream for privacy.
  • Best Time of Day: Sunset or late evening. The wide horizon allows you to maximize the final glowing colors of the day.
  • Best Time of Year: May through November.

9. Blacktail Ponds Overlook

Blacktail Ponds offers a dynamic landscape featuring wetlands, winding stream channels, and willow flats, all set against a sweeping panoramic view of the mountains. It feels vastly open and showcases the rich wilderness biodiversity of the valley floor.

  • Accessibility: Easy. A drive-up overlook with a short, optional walk down an unpaved dirt path into the flats.
  • Seclusion Level: Moderate. A few landscape photographers gather at the upper overlook, but moving down into the lower flats provides incredible privacy.
  • Best Time of Day: Sunset. The sky transforms into an expansive canvas of pinks and purples directly behind the Tetons.
  • Best Time of Year: September and October. The autumn colors in the wetlands are unmatched, and the crisp mountain air is incredible.

10. Teton Glacier Turnout

This spot looks directly up at the only remaining active glacier in the entire range, nestled high on the face of the Grand Teton. Standing here gives you an up-close, incredibly rugged, and texture-rich mountain perspective that photographs beautifully.

  • Accessibility: Easy. A flat, paved pullout right off Teton Park Road.
  • Seclusion Level: High. Because it sits between major attractions like Jenny Lake and Glacier View, tourists frequently drive right past it.
  • Best Time of Day: Late afternoon through Sunset. This spot captures magnificent, dramatic sunflares as the sun drops behind the peaks.
  • Best Time of Year: June to October.

11. Wilderness Trails Near Jenny Lake (The Outer Sage Flats)

You still get to experience the incredible energy and proximity of the Jenny Lake area, but by utilizing the open sage flats nearby, you capture wide-angle, unobstructed views of the peaks without tourists stepping into your frame.

  • Accessibility: Moderate. Requires walking 0.5 to 1 mile along unpaved, multi-use wilderness paths connecting to the Jenny Lake area.
  • Seclusion Level: High. While the paved loop directly around Jenny Lake is strictly prohibited for weddings due to massive crowds, heading into the unpaved sagebrush trails just a short distance away keeps us completely legal and delightfully separated from the crowds.
  • Best Time of Day: Sunrise.
  • Best Time of Year: June to September.

12. Forest Fringes Near String Lake

This option gives you a gorgeous, moody forest aesthetic. The towering pines serve as beautiful natural frames for your photos, and the nearby lake means we can always pop over for water-feature portraits after your formal ceremony wraps up.

  • Accessibility: Easy to moderate. A brief 5-minute walk along the dirt paths winding into the pine woods adjacent to the lake.
  • Seclusion Level: High (if timed carefully). The developed picnic areas and immediate lakeshore at String Lake are off-limits for weddings. However, by tracking just slightly north or east into the legal wilderness forest fringes, you get beautiful, filtered mountain views through the lodgepole pines with total privacy.
  • Best Time of Day: Early morning or late evening.
  • Best Time of Year: Late June through September.

13. Signal Mountain Summit Ridge

Signal Mountain stands isolated on the valley floor. Driving to the top gives you a bird’s-eye view looking down onto Jackson Lake, the winding Snake River, and the entire panoramic expanse of the Teton Range. It is a completely different viewpoint than anywhere else in the park.

  • Accessibility: Easy drive-up. A paved, winding mountain road takes you directly to the summit area. Zero hiking required.
  • Seclusion Level: Moderate. While the main observation deck attracts visitors, stepping a short distance down the ridge trail offers great privacy.
  • Best Time of Day: Sunset. Watching the sun dip behind the entire Teton Range from an elevated viewpoint is unparalleled.
  • Best Time of Year: Late June through September (the mountain summit road is closed during winter and early spring snow).
